Marilyn Wells [Roberts] remembers:

The hill in the back of the school was a great place to slide. We all walked to school, some of us walked home for lunch. Every Memorial Day we all marched to the cemetery, waved to John Talcott senior as we passed his house on Elm Hill Rd. We each ad a piece to say and we brought flowers to the unknown soldier. We always gathered in front of that monument to say our pieces. Mrs. Upson was our music teacher, she would ride down to the school from Rockville. The school nurse was Mrs. Dornheim...I was scared to death of her, for no particular reason..but she would look at our teeth and our fingernails and I was sure she'd scold me for having dirty fingernails or something. I started going to the Talcottville School when I was five years old, and this year I'll be 75".
