Old <===> New

Even though the houses go back to the 19th century, we need to remember that the basic structure may persist, but the culture, people and times changed so much. We can look at the old photos to imagine what it must have been like to live then.

Here is the house at 100 Main (used to be 28 Main) in a series of photos. We have talked to people who identified these people in this photo, about 1886.

Left to right: George Smith, Jonas Smith, Mrs. George
Smith(Martha) with William Rivenburg in hand, Charlotte
Smith, Wilbur Smith (age 1) and Addie - Lena Hunt Smith.<

Notice the dog in the upstairs window.

This snapshot in 1950 shows the house has changed little, even the same shutters and front door: (try the page up and down keys)

In the 1940's, the Talcotts decided to sell the houses to individuals.

Below you see the house in 2002.

As with all of the 19th century houses in Talcottville, the interior has been modernized, a garage added, and other improvements made, but it is remarkable how much is the same (even the shutters).
