Friends, residents, and former residents, of Talcottville have formed and incorporated a community group, Historic Talcottville Association, or HTA, the sponsor of this web site, www.talcottville.org. We hope you can share in the group's enthusiasm for and appreciation of the history and beauty of Talcottville.

How much can a neighborhood group matter? We are trying to prove we can indeed have a positive influence on today's world as it concerns Talcottville.

The following was adopted as the mission statement for the Historic Talcottville Association:

Historic Talcottville Association is dedicated to preserve and promote the historic integrity of the village; foster community; address opportunities and challenges; ensure the conservation of our natural resources; and stand prepared for changes in the future.

The group has been meeting regularly since its foundation in 2001. We have been busy.

We have organized street and pond cleanup days.
We have hosted annual community picnics.
We have hosted annual meeting/celebrations.
We have a welcome package for new residents.
We have started this web site for Talcottville.
We have started a database of Talcottville friends.
We mail a periodic newsletter to residents, friends and members.
We share announcements and info by electronic mail.
We have addressed village matters, forming group positions for action on developments abutting the Historic District.
We have assisted in developing a plan to apply for a state grant to improve and enhance the Village.
We have been awarded a federal transportation grant, an opportunity to use federal money to improve the village.

HTA has taken an active role in town meetings and discussions concerning commercial and residential plans.

We have gained credibility as a community group with through our unified actions.

We have resisted some unwanted development, with a keen eye to protecting the environment and the integrity of the community. We are on record, however, as welcoming acceptable development and changes, realizing the inevitability of progress.
